Lundy Island June 2027
Fancy going playing with the Seals at Lundy Island?
Availability: Contact us for booking information
Lundy is an Island which, in 1986, was made a statutory marine nature reserve. So, loads of life and creatures abound. The island lies at the mouth of the Bristol Channel where the cool, clear, oceanic waters from the Gulf Stream mix with the clear, but warmer, waters from the Mediterranean.
We have booked three days diving with a boat we know quite well Obsession II which is 100ft purpose-built dive boat with a lift. We can sit either in the wheelhouse or undercover outside for the crossing and we will be leaving Ilfracombe on the morning of the 15th June for your first two dives. The boat is fully coded has hot drinks and biscuits, a toilet and changing area. All skippers are divers or have dived and all are involved with the Ilfracombe Lifeboat as Coxswains.
Day one will probably be the deepest dive of the three days, a wreck called the Robert, lying at 25m maximum, which if you follow a line out leads to the protected wreck the Iona II, so two wrecks in one dive, then a second scenic shallow dive.
We will then be dropped off on Lundy Island where we have booked the Landmark Trust property Milcombe House. This sleeps 12 people so we have the whole house.
A short stroll up the road is the Marsco Tavern for Breakfast and dinner, and possibly a pint in the evenings?
Boat will collect us for the second and third days of diving and dives will as always be subject to prevailing wind and weather.
Air is accessible on Lundy Island but at this point not Nitrox and is not included in your trip price.
By staying on the Island rather than going back and forward from Ilfracombe we are more likely to get our diving in and it saves a two to three hour trip daily on the boat.
The down side of booking accommodation on the island is that we can’t cancel it. However, if its windy we grab a ferry and Obsession can usually get the boat over in conditions we divers don’t want to play in, and then we can hopefully go diving in the lee of the Island.
There are over 40 dive sites around the island with a mix of wrecks, reefs, drop offs, and pinnacles. You can also dive with the seals which are extremely friendly. If the conditions are right and you wish.
Safety - The weather around Lundy can change quickly, so all divers should be PADI AOW with SMB trained, qualified, and experienced. It is mandatory to carry at least one SMB each on every dive.
The cost is £600.00 each including the crossing on Obsessions, your accommodation and the three days diving twice a day.
Extras are your food and drink and getting two and from Ilfracombe. I would suggest that once we know who is going, we all get together to car share.
A non-refundable deposit of £175.00 is needed as soon as you book as we have already given cash to the accommodation and skipper to secure the places and dates.
With the remaining balance being paid by end of March 2027. We do this on GoCardless. So, if you want staged payments that can be done.
